New wardrobes: Fig Leaf and L’Armoire
Tord Boontje has created two new wardrobes for Meta, a Mallett company. The monumental doors of the Fig Leaf open to reveal a bronze tree arching up and outward against the background of a peaceful landscape in silk. Each wardrobe requires 616 hand-painted enamel leaves, the largest project of its kind in history.
While L’Armoire, made of Dalbergia wood, is a reinterpretation of the classic wood veneered cabinet of the 18th century, using simply figured veneers to highlight a rich landscape of curves giving the wardrobe it’s sensual form.
