The Forest of Karakusa

The Forest of Karakusa

Expanding the ancient Karakusa (‘China grass’) decorative language used by Shiseido to characterise its lifestyle products, the imagery used in the installation reflects an interest in fairy tales.

Parallels can be drawn between the decorative designs - realised in a bench, swing, chandelier, chair made of branches - and the flora and fauna in the tradition of Karakusa, which in turn suggests a dialogue with the Western stylised arabesque forms of Art Nouveau and Rococo.
