Dawn to Dusk

In response to public furniture that is commonly cold and unfriendly, we designed these seats to be generous, spacious, comfortable and warm to sit on. You can choose which direction you would like to view; to have privacy or be part of a group.

The scheme includes three rotating benches and two clusters of three rotating chairs.

I was inspired after learning that J.M.W. Turner apparently used to come here to the river to paint at this unique spot where you can see the sun rising and setting above the water. The benches and chairs are designed to turn towards the view of your choosing.

Made from corten and FSC cumaru wood, the rotating seats incorporate planting selected by Churchman Landscape Architects and include drought tolerant plantings, Acanthus, Penesetum, Agapanthus, Kniphophia (Red Hot Poker), Fragaria (Strawberry) and Tulbhagia (Society Garlic).

Located on the South bank of the river Thames, just west of Vauxhall Bridge, the permanent commission in Riverside Gardens, one of a series of new ‘pocket parks’ along the Thames Path in South West London, is part of a wider regeneration programme in area.
