Table Stories

This collection is a rich graphic narrative on everyday ceramic plates, bowls and glasses.

My intention was to make a special collection of tableware, which is also informal and can be used as everyday ceramics. I created very functional basic shapes that have a very diverse usage.

We chose to produce this in an elegant porcelain to give it a feeling of refinement. Each item in the collection has a unique graphic pattern. Every size item has 4 different drawings. As there are 5 different shapes, each with 4 pattern variations, you can have 20 different drawings on the table.

In addition to the variation of patterns, there are different colour combinations that can be freely mixed and matched.

I think this variety in designs give the collection a festive character, each day, each meal can be a party, a special moment.

The drawings for the plates are filled with flowers, deer, squirrel, birds, bear, butterflies, horses, bunnies and a peacock. The animals and flowers seem to merge and to grow out of each other. Some of the elements we have hidden inside the patterns. For example, there's a hidden mouse in one of the plates. Over time you can discover new elements while eating.

The graphic images are applied as an underglaze print. This is an old ceramic technique by which the image is first fired onto the ceramic body and second a clear glaze is applied on top. This gives it a very durable, hard wearing quality, making it suitable for everyday use.
