Van Gogh Museum

A collection of accessories for the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

The museum commissioned the studio to create a collection of accessories by taking influences from the paintings of Vincent van Gogh. The brief asked for accessories through which the wearer can express an empathy with Van Gogh’s works and life. The collection is based in particular on three seminal paintings: Almond Blossom, Sunflowers and The Potato Eaters.

Taking inspiration from the brilliant colours, characteristic brushwork and objects that appear in the paintings, the collection uses both modern and traditional production techniques to reference the paintings. Most pieces are made in the UK and produced by Studio Tord Boontje.

The collection was launched in early September 2015 to coincide with the opening of the museum’s new entrance hall and shop. 2015 also marks 125 years since Vincent van Gogh’s death (1853-1890).
